UWRF Book Club Invites Participants

SEPT. 14, 2009 | The Lion’s Paw Book Club at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls will hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month during the academic year from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Chalmer Davee Library second floor breezeway.

Featured books are always on sale in the Falcon Shop, located in the University Center on campus. Several copies of each book are made available in the library’s collection as well.

The 2009-2010 Lion Paw Book Club calendar includes:

*Oct. 14: “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder” by Richard Louv. (Algonquin Books, 2008.) Discussion leader: Alicia Acken Cosgrove, land use specialist, UW-Extension/UWRF.

*Nov. 11: “The Map of Love” by Ahdaf Soueif. (Anchor, 2000.) Discussion leader: Sue Beckham, UW-Stout Dept. of English-Emerita. *Dec. 9: “Netherland” by Joseph O’Neill. (Pantheon, 2008.) Discussion leader: Marilyn Schuchman, River Falls community member.

*Feb. 10: Book TBA, Discussion leader: Yvonne Wilken, campus minister – Journey House.

*March 10: “Tommy and Me” by Pat Hanson. (Xlibris, 2006.) Discussion leader: Pat Hanson, retired lecturer from the UWRF communication, speech and theatre arts department.

*April 14: “The Tyranny of Dead Ideas: Letting Go of the Old Ways of Thinking to Unleash a New Prosperity” by Matt Miller. (Henry Holt 2009.) Discussion leader: Kurt Leichtle, professor, UWRF department of history and philosophy.

*May 12: “Emerson Among the Eccentrics: A Group Portrait” by Carlos Baker. (Penguin, 1997.) Discussion leaders: Imtiaz Moosa, professor, UWRF department of history and philosophy and Brian Copp, professor, UWRF sociology department.
