Info Sessions Set for Shared Inquiry Community Master's Program

SEPT. 26, 2008--University of Wisconsin-River Falls representatives will be visiting schools in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin to present information on how area educators can earn a master's degree through meeting with a group of peers one weekend per month over two years.               

The Shared Inquiry Community master's degree program at UWRF started in 2005, and some 66 students have graduated from the program to date. Currently there are 100 students enrolled, and three new groups are scheduled to begin during the 2008-09 academic year. Learning communities in Rice Lake and River Falls are set to start in 2009.

Sept. 30 and Oct. 21, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m., UW-Barron County Campus               
Oct. 1, 3-5 p.m., St. Croix Falls High School       
Oct. 7, 3 - 5 p.m., Stillwater (Minn.) Public Library               
Oct. 13, 3-5 p.m., Ellsworth High School               
Oct. 15, 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., River Falls High School               
Oct. 20, 4-5:30 p.m., St. Croix Central High School  
Oct. 22, 3-5 p.m., Hastings (Minn.) High School               
Oct. 27, 3-5 p.m., Amery High School               
Nov. 5, 3-5 p.m., Red Wing (Minn.) High School               

The flexible program is designed to serve the needs of educators in all disciplines and to share and adopt best practices in contemporary teaching methods. Each community sets its own class schedule and location, and students complete 7-8 credits over five weekends each fall and spring semester. Classes are not held during the summer unless the group desires an accelerated program.               

The program is suitable for K-12 teachers in all disciplines, higher education and vocational/technical college instructors, and anyone interested in developing teaching and leadership skills in an educational setting.
