St. Croix Valley Community Band Summer Concert SeriesJULY 11, 2008--Celebrating 25 years of summer concerts, the St. Croix Valley Community Band, based at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, begins their concert series on July 19. The band is comprised of musicians from the greater St. Croix River Valley in Wisconsin and Minnesota, ranging from ages 15 to 80. The band's performance includes a wide variety of music from Dixieland, big band and classical to symphonic band arrangements. Kristin Tjornehoj, of Hudson and a professor of music at UWRF, has led the band since 1982 and will be a featured vocal soloist, along with Mary Maiden-Mueller, of Luck. Other featured soloists include Gary Bird, of Spring Valley, on tuba. Guest conductors of the concert series include Jim Root of Hudson, Verle Ormsby of Amery, Spike Maiden-Mueller of Luck, and Chris Tank of Hudson. The concert schedule for 2008 is as follows: ·Saturday, July 19, 6 p.m.--Phipps 25th Anniversary Celebration at Lakefront Park, Hudson. ·Tuesday, July 22, 7 p.m.--Petersons' Valley View Farm at 3148 150th Ave., Glenwood City. ·Wednesday, July 23, 6:30 p.m.--Heritage Hillside Series at 1100 Heritage Drive, New Richmond. ·Thursday, July 24, 7 p.m.--UWRF Wall Amphitheatre, River Falls. Rain site is North Hall on the UWRF campus. This performance includes a raffle drawing including a bicycle, iPod and cash prizes in celebration of their last summer performance during the 25th anniversary. -30- Last updated:
