UWRF Young Entrepreneurs' Conference Winners Named

MAY 21, 2008--Winners of the Fourth Annual Xcel Energy Young Entrepreneurs' Written Business Plan Competition have been named by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls College of Business and Economics.   

Ryan McKone, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, received first place in the Written Business Plan Competition. His faculty advisor was Mark Fenton. First, second and third place awards were presented for the best business plans. As the first-place winner, Ryan receives $1000, and UW-Stout will house the First Place Traveling Lydecker Award for the year.

Blake Suhar, a student at UW- Milwaukee, took home second place and $500. His faculty advisor was Jim Hunter. A UWRF student team composed of Bryce Shearen, a business administration major from St. Paul; Drew Hruska, a business administration major from Rochester, Minn.; Josh Grover, a business administration major from Milton; Tony Dorner, an accounting major from Green Bay; and Derek Hansberry, a business administration major from Arvada, Colo., won third place and $250. Their advisor was Dave Bonko.

Funded in part by a grant from the Xcel Energy Foundation, the competition was established to give UW students the opportunity to take part in a business plan competition and have their plan judged by entrepreneurs.
