Fall Creative Engagement Conference Accepting SubmissionsBy Annaka Isenberger MARCH 28, 2008--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls English department has begun preparations for the second annual, " Nature, Art, Self: A Conference for Critical and Creative Engagement," on Sept. 26, 2008. The conference, an all-day presentation of student work, is also set to feature author, David Lee. English Professor Michelle Parkinson, conference committee chair for the event, is looking to accept submissions from students. "We welcome proposals related to nature, art, and the self as these concepts are represented in literature, the arts, and public discourse," she said. "Projects addressing any two of these three broad topics--nature, art, or the self--will be particularly welcome." All majors are invited to submit critical papers, creative writing or visual art on any topic, out of which 20 will be chosen. To submit, undergraduate students should send a maximum 300-word description of proposed topic, texts, and approach to Parkinson by April 30. Emails should have the subject line "Nature, Art, Self," and students should include in the email, a brief statement regarding their university affiliation, major, and email address of a recommending faculty member familiar with the student's work. For more information, contact Parkinson at michelle.parkinson@uwrf.edu. -30-
