Geologist to Speak

FEB. 15, 2008--The Plant and Earth Science Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and the River Falls Geological Society are sponsoring a free, public geological talk Feb. 27 by visiting geologist Jim Miller, from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Miller will present "The Making of Laurentia: Precambrian Geology of the Lake Superior Region" will be at 5 p.m. in Room 200 in the Agriculture Science Building on campus.

Miller is an associate professor in the department of geological sciences at UMD and also the administrative director for the UMD Precambrian Research Center.

The Precambrian Research Center is a new research institute established at UMD as an integrated teaching and research center focused on geological mapping of Precambrian rocks. The PRC is a result of a long-term need for geoscientists within the private and public sectors of the geological community who are skilled in geological mapping and the study of Precambrian geology.

For more information, contact Kerry Keen in the UWRF department of plant and earth science at 715-425-3345 or e-mail at kerry.l.keen@uwrf.edu .
