Tax Assistance Offered by UWRF Students and WESTconsin Credit Union

FEB. 15, 2008--Free, confidential income tax return preparation assistance is available through University of Wisconsin-River Falls Student Accounting Society and the WESTconsin Credit Union for individuals with an income of less than $30,000 per year.

Help sessions will be held Feb. 21 and 28 and March from 6 to 9 p.m. at WESTconsin Credit Union, 1207 North Main Street, in River Falls. Individuals are asked to bring W-2 and 1099 forms as well as dependent(s) social security number(s), day-care forms and last year's tax return.

Sign-up sheets for the volunteers from the Student Accounting Society indicate that 20-30 students will be assisting with the tax preparation, according to Steve DeWald, an adjunct professor in the College of Business and Economics and director of the Small Business Development Center at UWRF. Students will be prepared to help about 15-20 people per evening with their taxes on a first-come, first-served basis.
