Sustainable Agriculture Workshop SetDEC. 7, 2007--The University of Wisconsin - River Falls College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences will host a two-day workshop, Sustainable Agriculture 101, for agriculture professionals Jan. 22-23. Topics will include the history of sustainable agriculture, soil health/ecology, rotational grazing, alternative hog structures, crop rotation comparisons, vegetable crop production, and alternative weed control measures. Participants will gain knowledge of the key principles of sustainable agriculture techniques. "The workshop will focus on the current trends in sustainable agriculture," said Michael Crotser, a professor of plant and earth Science at UWRF. "Sustainable agriculture is economically viable, promotes land stewardship and rural community viability." Continuing education credits have been approved for Minnesota and Wisconsin certified crop advisors. The workshop is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 and 8:30 to 4 p.m. Jan. 23 in the Trimbelle Room of the University Center on campus. Cost is $25 per day or $40 for both days, and lunch and refreshments will be provided. Preferred registration is via email to michael.crotser@uwrf.edu .
