Homecoming Concerts Set Oct. 13, 14

OCT. 8, 2007--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will present two concerts in conjunction with Homecoming weekend Oct. 13 and 14.

The 2007 Instrument Homecoming Concert featuring the premiere of UWRF Professor J. Michael Roy's piece, "Quetzalcoatl," is Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building.

The concert is performed by the UWRF Jazz Band, directed by Professor David Milne, and the UWRF Symphony/Wind Band, directed by Professor Kristin Tjornehoj.

In addition to Roy's premiere, the repertoire will include: "Vesuvius" by Frank Ticheli; "Northern Lights" by J. Michael Roy, "Polka and Fugue" by Glenn C. Bainum. The 2007 Choral Homecoming Concert is Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. in the Abbott Concert Hall and will feature the UWRF Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by Professor J.W. Park; the Women's Chorus, directed by Professor Sarah Parks; the Men's Chorus, directed by Zebulon Highben; and the Alumni Choir, directed by retired Professor Elliot Wold.

The choirs will perform the music of Robert Schumann, Irving Berlin and David Brunner. The concert closes with a special mass choir performance, directed by Wold of Peter J. Wilhousky's arrangement of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," written by Julia Ward Howe. In addition, Wold will be honored after this concert with a reception, dedication and naming of the choir room (room 134) on campus at 5 p.m.
