UWRF Hosts Wellness FairBy Lisa Stratton "Students, faculty, staff and others will have the opportunity to become more aware of their own personal health status, gain knowledge and awareness of a variety of health-related issues, and learn about resources available on campus and in the community," said Justine Benzen, a senior marketing communications major from Minneapolis and the student coordinator of the Health Fair. Those attending the fair will have the chance to have their hearing screened, their blood pressure checked, their spines scanned, and their body fat analyzed. Henna tattoos, hair up-dos and massages will also be available. One unique addition to this year's Health Fair is knitting and crocheting for stress relief, offered by Journey House Campus Ministry. "Knitting and crocheting have become one of our regular Journey House activities this year," says Andrea Crownhart, a senior biology major from Elmwood and a member of the Journey House leadership team. "In general, knitting and crocheting are great activities for relaxation and provide an opportunity for socialization. Also, the satisfaction of making something yourself is a great feeling." Interactive activities are being offered free of charge, and reduced-cost products may be offered at some booths. Some of the attending area businesses and organizations include: U.S. Army Healthcare, The Route Bike Shop, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Kinni Valley Chiropractic, River Falls Pregnancy Helpline, Turningpoint, Curves, Hastings Beauty School, St. Croix Center for the Healing Arts, and River Falls EMS/Ambulance/Fire Dept. "It is important to have a health-related event for students because it enables them to become more aware of their health," said Benzen. "It encourages students to make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, which is important for their overall well-being."
