St. Croix Falls HS Takes Top Honors at Forensics TourneyFEB. 19, 2007--The annual UW-River Falls High School Forensics Tournament, held Feb. 10, saw top honors go to St. Croix Falls High School, which won first place in demonstration speaking, farrago and group interpretation. The team is coached by Peggy Ryan. New Richmond High School, coached by Jeffrey Ayers, took second, and Baldwin-Woodville High School, coached by Roxi Wakeen, ranked third in the competition that brought more than 250 students from 15 area schools to compete in 15 public speaking and oral interpretation events. The events are the same as those offered by the Wisconsin High School Forensic Association. The tournament was sponsored by the UWRF department of speech communication and theatre arts, the campus chapter of Delta Sigma Rho-Tau Kappa Alpha (a national forensics honorary society), and the UWRF forensics program. James W. Pratt, professor of speech communication and theatre arts, directs the forensics program. He was assisted by Seth Smith and Kathy Olsen, of the department of SCTA, and Steve Olsen, chair of the UWRF marketing communications program. Individual first place prizes were awarded to: -30-
