Scholarship Dinner HeldBy Ben Jipson NOV. 10, 2006--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation held its annual scholarship dinner in October, attended by more than 200 scholarship recipients, donors and staff. Psychology Professor Brad Caskey was the guest speaker, and musical entertainment was provided by music Professor David Milne and UWRF alumnus Phil Kadidlo, who graduated in 1986. Over the past 22 years, the UW-River Falls Foundation has distributed about 11,000 scholarships worth more than $5.7 million. For the 2006-07 academic year, the Foundation awarded more than $440,000 in scholarship money to some 500 students. Among the 25 new scholarships offered this year in were the Gerhardt (Doc) Bohn Memorial Scholarship, in memory of the late animal science professor who was known for starting the Falcon Rodeo; the Judy George and Mel Germanson Registrars Scholarship, named in honor of two retired registrars at UWRF; the Dr. Lee E. Jensen Secondary Memorial Scholarship, named in memory of the former professor and career services director at UWRF; and the Donavon Rasmussen Journalism Internship Scholarship, founded by Rasmussen, a 1942 graduate, to provide radio broadcasting internships at a low-power community FM station he helped establish in Amery, Wis. The UW-River Falls Foundation serves as the central fundraising agency for the University and ensures that gifts are sought, well-managed, productively invested and used as directed by donors. -30-
