Service-Learning Online Info Session SetSEPT. 29, 2006--An online information meeting for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Service-Learning Graduate Certificate program is set for 3:30 p.m. Oct. 18 via Wisline Web. The one-hour Wisline Web presentation will give interested teachers as well as scommunity members and leaders and others an opportunity to learn about the service-learning program at UW-RF. To register to participate online, send an e-mail to Pamela.bowen@uwrf.edu or call 715-425-3256. UW-RF, in partnership with the national Youth Leadership Council, developed an online graduate-level certificate. The program assists educators and other to plan and apply service-learning methods in their classrooms and communities. The certificate program is offered entirely online with a cohort of peers and completed within one year. It uses a variety of multimedia tools for an interactive learning experience. Much of the skills learned can be applied immediately to classroom and community settings. According to the Learn and Serve America program, some 1 million students participated in service-learning last year. Educators across the country are discovering the rewards of incorporating hands-on service projects with established curricula to increase student involvment and enhance academic achievement, citizenship and character development.
