Broadcast Journalism Program Receives WBA GrantAUG. 18, 2006--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls broadcast journalism program is the recipient of a 2006 Educational Support Grant from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. The $3,000 grant will be used to purchase two TV news kits consisting of digital camera, batteries, microphone, headsets, cables and tripods. The equipment will be used by UW-RF journalism students to produce TV news stories that will air on the University's cable access channel 19. " Broadcast journalism programs across the country are challenged to keep up with the constantly changing technology used in radio and TV," says Sandy Ellis, associate professor of journalism at UW-RF. " We're fortunate that Wisconsin broadcasters value higher education enough to provide financial assistance through the WBA Foundation. " This is the 7th year of the WBA educational grant program, which has awarded a total of more than $68,500 for equipment, hardware of software used in teaching broadcast education programs. UW-RF has received grants for four of the seven years since the grant program's inception. The WBA Foundation also offers four $2,000 scholarships each year to assist students enrolled in broadcasting-related educational programs at four-year public or private colleges and universities. Applicants must have either graduated from a Wisconsin high school or be attending a Wisconsin college or university.
