By Katie Bild
UW-RF Public Affairs
APRIL 21, 2006--Those seeking a reason to get out and enjoy the weather
are encouraged to participate in one of two outdoor events at the University
of Wisconsin-River Falls on April 29.
The Falcon Mini Triathlon begins at a 10 a.m. A 400-yard swim will be
completed in the Karges pool, followed by a 3.6 mile bicycle leg and a
1.8 mile run. Helmets are required for the bike portion. A “Heart
Healthy Walk” is also at 10 a.m. on campus.
"Hopefully, we'll have good weather," said UW-RF professor and
swim team coach Bill Henderson, who is putting on the event. "The
events are just for fun and I encourage participants to challenge themselves
and be safe."
The registration fee for students, faculty and staff is $5, and $10 for
non-university member participants and is to be paid at the registration
table the morning of the event. Registration will take place on the hill
next to Karges Center just north of the parking lot.
For more information about the triathlon, contact Henderson at 715-425-0636.
The Heart Healthy Walk begins behind the Knowles/Hunt Arena near Ramer
Field. Proceeds from the walk will benefit the River Falls Area Hospital
Wellness Center and Cardiac Rehabilitation Services.
Registration on the day of the walk begins at 9 a.m. and is $20 for adults
and $15 for seniors and children under 12. T-shirts will be provided while
supplies last and a raffle will be held following the walk. UW-RF, Eta
Sigma Gamma (the campus chapter of health education honor society) and
the River Falls Area Hospital are sponsoring the walk.
For more information about the walk, contact Jamie Swiontek at 715-497-9371.
