Annual Juried Show Excites Student-Artists

APRIL 7, 2006--Students from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, will drop off their work on April 18 to be selected in the annual juried art show from April 21-May 4 in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building on campus.

Regional artist Erika Spitzer-Rasmussen is the juror for the show. On April 19, she will select work and coordinate the exhibition. At an informal reception at 3 p.m., she will discuss the decisions she made about what was selected for the show and present merit awards. Student works including clay, drawings, fibers, glass, paintings, photography, printmaking and metals will be included.

Spitzer-Rasmussen has art degrees from the University of Minnesota and has studied in Greece and Mexico. She has been featured in news publications such as the Minneapolis Star Tribune, City Pages and the St. Paul Pioneer Press. She has also earned awards for her artwork at the Minnesota State Fair and the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, Wis. In July, she will be leading a seminar in the national 2006 Art Cloth Symposium at the Textile Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

In addition, the UW-RF administration will select one two-dimensional and one three-dimensional work to purchase for the University’s permanent collection. Ginny Coombs, provost and vice chancellor academic affairs for the University, will present the awards.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Kleinpell Fine Arts Gallery 101 is open Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 and 7-9, and Sundays from 2-4 p.m.
