By Jenna Wegner

APRIL 7, 2006--The Minnesota District 11 Agri-Women named Tamia Trulson,
an instructor in the agricultural education department at the University
of Wisconsin-River Falls, the recipient of its 2006 Outstanding Agriculture
Mentor Award.
Trulson was presented the award by Minnesota Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau at
the 8th Annual Women's Agricultural Leadership Conference on March 30.
The Outstanding Agriculture Mentor Award recognizes people in agriculture
who have been positive mentors and role models for people in agriculture
fields, especially women.
Leslie Shuler, Trulson’s nominator and a UW-RF graduate, is appreciative
for Tamia’s guidance and knowledge. “Looking back at all the
teachers, guides and advisors I’ve worked with, Tamia stands out
at the top,” said Schuler. “Tamia truly cares about the student
she works with. When I was in school she was always willing to take time
to meet, in or out of her regular office hours.”
Trulson was surprised and pleased at receiving the award. “I am
truly honored to receive this award,” she said.
Lt. Gov. Molnau also emphasized the importance of mentors. “Mentoring
is the future for those of us involved in agriculture. If we want future
we need to give the next generation opportunity through mentoring.”
The Women's Agricultural Leadership Conference is for anyone with an interest
in agriculture, but it is specifically aimed at women who are actively
involved in all forms of agriculture as a career or who are students with
the intent of entering an
agriculturally related career.
