The focus of the Challenge Grant is to incorporate service-learning activities into courses providing real-life projects, helping students realize the requirements involved in their career path. Students will work together across the campuses to strengthen the service-learning initiatives within the areas of agriculture, life sciences and natural resources. Four faculty members from each of the three campuses will participate in training workshops and learn how to incorporate a service-learning component into their courses. Students will also serve as teaching assistants in these courses to help other students adjust to the new concepts. Jerry Nechville, an agriculture engineer professor, serves as project director and UW-RF coordinator. Stan Szczytko, professor of water resources, serves as the coordinator for UW-Stevens Point. Sue Curtis, Community-University Partnership coordinator, is overseeing the project at UW-Platteville. -30-
