Kids from Wisconsin Perform at UW-RF
JUNE 27, 2005--The Tuesday night UW-RF Summer Concert Series continues
with the popular Kids from Wisconsin on July 5, at 7 p.m. in the Melvin
Wall Amphitheatre on campus (rain site is the North Hall Auditorium).
This well-loved show choir group will perform the music of Broadway, country
hits, rock 'n roll, swing and jazz.
The Kids from Wisconsin program was developed in 1969 by the late Mark
Azzolina, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel. Azzolina was acting
on a request by then Wisconsin State Fair Board Chairman Herbert P. Velzer,
Fair Administrator Vernon G. Wendland and Gov. Warren Knowles, who, during
the turbulent years of the late 1960s, wanted to show the nation the best
face of Wisconsin's youth.
Since then nearly 700 young artists have participated in the program with
many going on to excel as performers, music educators, college professors,
entertainers, choreographers and top professionals in a wide variety of
fields.
Kids from Wisconsin has performed at county fairs, festivals and conventions
throughout the continent. The musical revue has helped raise thousands
of dollars for worthy charitable organizations. The group maintains a
demanding schedule each summer, performing 65 to 70 shows during the months
of June, July and August.
