Honors Program Marks Graduates' Distinction
By Justine Benzen
UW-RF News Bureau
APRIL 29, 2005--Almost 40 graduating seniors are participants in the UW-River
Falls Honors Program, which is offered for students who have outstanding
record of academic achievement.
The program allows students to engage in a variety of course types and
educationally related experiences, while earning academic credit, offering
them a true sense of intellectual adventure.
"The program is individualized for students," said program director
Nanette Jordahl. "This is a really neat program."
Students enrolled within the program are offered honors sections of many
general education classes, take introductory and advanced honors seminars,
participate in honors colloquia, complete an honors thesis/project, enroll
in a service-learning experience and receive credits for participation
in the intellectual and creative life of the UW-RF community. All of these
experiences are gained while keeping within the major and minor requirements
of an honors student's academic program.
Students must apply and be qualified to participate in the program. Incoming
freshman must have a composite ACT score of 27 or higher and/or have graduated
in the top 10 percent of their high school class. Sophomores, juniors,
and seniors can enroll if their cumulative grade point average is 3.3
or higher.
Students within the program must maintain a 3.3 cumulative grade point
average and complete at least two honors program credits per year.
Honor students benefit academically, have priority registration, one-on-one
interactions with faculty, discussion-style teaching, small classes, record
of unique academic achievement, and certificate and transcript showing
involvement within the honors program.
