Gov. Doyle Tours Campus
APRIL
19, 2005--Gov. Jim Doyle toured several campus buildings, classrooms and
laboratories at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls April 19 as part
of his "Capitol for the Day" tour of Pierce, Polk and St. Croix
counties in western Wisconsin.
Interim Chancellor Virgil Nylander, Vice Chancellor for Administration
and Finance Mary Halada, and College of Education and Professional Studies
Dean Connie Foster led Gov. Doyle in a tour of health and human performance
facilities including the Karges Center, Knowles Recreation Center, and
the 12,300 square foot construction project adding locker and training
rooms to the Knowles Center. On hand to discuss the project were Dan Ross
of Ross & Associates of River Falls; Dan Pearson of Ayres Associates
of Eau Claire; Raivo Balcuinas, Ayres Associates; Steve Stocker, UW-RF
building manager; and Tim Thum, UW-RF project engineer.
During
a trolley ride, Nylander pointed out various campus sites including the
excavation area for the new Student Union, the new George R. Field South
Fork Suites, the South Fork of the Kinnickinnic River, and the proposed
Health & Human Performance building site.
Dean Stephen Ridley showed Doyle facilities in the College of Agriculture,
Food and Environmental Sciences including the dairy processing pilot lab
and a food microprocessing laboratory-classroom, where Professor Bonnie
Walters discussed food quality testing.
The
Governor was accompanied by Secretary of Trade, Agriculture and Consumer
Protection Rod Nilsestuen, a UW-RF alumnus, and Secretary of Administration
Marc Marotta. Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls), who is chair of the
Senate Higher Education and Tourism Committee, also attended the event.
