Campus to Join in UW Spirit Week Activities
APRIL 1, 2005--UW-River Falls invites its alumni, friends and graduates
of other UW System campuses to join in a "UW Spirit Day" celebration
on Friday, April 15.
The celebration will be held across the state to showcase and celebrate
the contributions of the nearly 500,000 UW alumni who live and work in
Wisconsin.
Alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends are invited to participate
in UW Spirit Day by wearing their home campus colors, logo wear, and/or
a "spirit badge" to show their UW connection in schools, hospitals,
banks, businesses and hometowns throughout Wisconsin.
At UW-RF there will be a celebration in the Falcons Nest of the Hagestad
Student Center from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. A group photo will be taken of
all UW-RF and UW System alumni at 10 a.m.
Chancellor Virgil Nylander said the celebration is to acknowledge the
critical role that Wisconsin public higher education alumni in the state.
"They are literally in every community and every public and private
enterprise in Wisconsin," said Nylander. "With more than 30,000
alumni from UW-RF and a half-million UW System alumni across the state
and their contribution of $10 billion to our economy, it can seem to be
an abstraction. But when you see the individuals, the University’s
impact becomes much more apparent.
Spirit Day is one of many events throughout the UW Spirit Week, from April
10 to 16, including declarations by Gov. Jim Doyle, as well as a Joint
Legislative Resolution. The latter is co-sponsored by State Sen. Sheila
Harsdorf, (R-River Falls), the chair of the Senate Higher Education and
Tourism Committee, and Rep. Rob Kreibich (R-Eau Claire, chair of the Assembly
and Colleges Committee.
