Refugee Story Projects Presentation Set
APRIL 1, 2005--Two metropolitan daily newspaper reporters who have covered
refugee issues and a University of Wisconsin-River Falls project to tell
the stories of refugee students will join together for a presentation,
"Refugee Journeys," on April 7 in Rodli Commons at UW-RF.
The event begins with a reception in Room 138 at 6:30 p.m. Through a UW
System Race and Ethnicity Grant, journalism students have gathered the
stories of fellow students who are refugees in a project called "Shelter
from the Storm," sponsored by the UW-RF journalism department and
admissions office. Students will share the stories, which will be eventually
published on the journalism department Web site at www.uwrf.edu/journalism.
The presentation begins at 7 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m., St. Paul Pioneer Press Reporters Tim Nelson and Todd Nelson,
who have traveled to Wat Tham Krabok refugee camp in Thailand to report
on the journey of thousands of Hmong refugees to the United States, will
discuss their work with the students and the public. Their presentation
is part of UW-RF’s Working Journalist Seminar.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact
the journalism department at 715/425-3169.
