Fine Arts Mosaic to be Installed in KFA
FEB. 5, 2004--Faculty, students and the community are invited to an installation
of a mosaic mural created by a UW-River Falls art student on Friday, Feb.
11 at 4 p.m. in the central stairwell of the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building.
The event coincides with the opening of the annual faculty art show in
Gallery 101.
Art education major Ashley Ryan Hawke, a senior from Roseville, Minn.,
created the mosaic, "Moving through the Arts," for an independent
study course with advisor and art Professor Lynn Jermal.
Creative Activity Collaborative Grant. Mary Halada, vice chancellor for
administration and finance, will give a short presentation at 4 p.m.
Jermal's Collaborative Mural class assisted with the project, which also
received support from the Campus Beautification Fund and a College of
Arts Student Grant, which allowed the class to visit regional mosaic artist
Rianna de Raad's studio in rural Beldenville, Wis.
"The project was designed and created to give a 'breath of fresh
air' as one descends the steps on their way to the creative departments
of the University," says Hawke. "The hopes for this mosaic mural
are for it to help inspire creativity throughout the fine arts."
Some supplies and materials were donated by the Martell Tile Shop, Blaine
Mallo Construction, TileXDesign, T. J. Haggerty Inc., Mr. and Mrs. Parranto,
and Susan and Richard Hawke.
