UW-RF Student Ties for 1st Place in Poultry Judging

JAN. 7, 2005--University of Wisconsin-River Falls student Elizabeth Schwertel tied for first place in the live bird portion of the egg production division at the 39th annual National Collegiate Poultry Judging Contest at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in November.

Schwertel , a senior food science technology major from Galesville, Wis., also received the seventh high individual title overall for the egg production division, which included both live bird judging and product judging.

Other UW-RF poultry judging team members included Joshua Stensland, a senior agricultural education major from Blue Earth, Minn., and Bridget Christie, a senior pre-veterinary major from Spring Valley, Minn. UW-RF food science Professor Bonnie Walters served as the team coach.
