UW-RF News Bureau

DEC. 3, 2004--The UW-River Falls agricultural education quiz bowl team competed against 16 other teams to claim first place at the National Collegiate Agricultural Education Conference held in October. The contest and conference was held in conjunction with the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.

The first place team consisted of four agricultural education majors. Sonja Stoterau, a senior from Eagle Bend, Minn., Crystal Heath, a senior from Whitehall, Wis., Andrew Klein, a senior from South Haven, Minn., and Sandra Miskowiak, a junior from Wausau, Wis. competed in three separate rounds of competition.

The competition features questions about technical agriculture, professional education and agricultural education organizations. This year the specific questions within those categories dealt with animal science, foundations in agriculture and the National FFA Organization.

In addition to competing, the UW-RF students also organized the National Collegiate Agricultural Education Conference and the Conclave for Alpha Tau Alpha--the national professional honorary agricultural education fraternity. The only UW school to participate in the conference, the UW-RF team also received the A.W. Nolan Memorial Leadership Award for its leadership, professional development and communications efforts.
