Dairy Cattle Hoof Trimming Class Offered
NOV. 24, 2004--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is offering a course
on dairy cattle hoof trimming and care Jan. 18-21, 2005.
UW-RF dairy science Professor Steve Kelm will co-teach the course with
professional hoof trimmer Karl Burgi from the Dairyland Hoof Care Institute
in Baraboo, Wis. The workshop will be held on UW-RF Lab Farm 1 and a local
commercial farm.
Workshop topics will include economic implications of lameness, management
and laminitis, and hoof and leg anatomy. Functional hoof trimming practice,
along with lessons on blocking and wrapping will also be included.
The cost of the workshop is $479, which includes all course activities
and refreshments. A $100 deposit is required at the time of registration.
There are a limited number of noncredit opening for this course.
