UW-RF Student Exhibits Art With Social Themes

NOV. 18, 2004--UW-River Falls student Nichelle Lasar displays a collection of paintings and prints, "Familiar Characters," in the Harriet Barry Gallery located in the Chalmer Davee Library on campus from Nov. 29 to Dec. 4, with an opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 29.

Lasar creates art that comments on social issues and humanity but expresses these ideas through abstract forms. Although Lasar uses a variety of printmaking processes, most of her paintings are done in oil.

Originally from St. Paul, Minn., Lasar is a senior majoring in fine arts. Her work is vibrant and animated while reflecting the absurdity and anxiety of society, she says.

The exhibit runs during regular library hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m.-11 p.m.; Friday, 7:45 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-11 p.m. For more information, please contact the Chalmer Davee Library at 715/425-3321.
