One-Credit Counseling Course Offered
NOV. 12, 2004--Teachers and school staff can take a one-credit graduate
course on solution-focused counseling at UW-River Falls this January.
This course is designed for school counselors, school psychologists, teachers
and school social workers. Classes will be held at the UW-RF campus on
Jan. 8 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Online coursework is included
and must be completed by March 21.
Solution-focused counseling is taught through a combination of lecture,
case studies, videotapes, structured practice, recent research, role-play
simulation and practical application.
"There are an increased number of school staff members going back
to school to get their master's degrees, and this course is a great way
to acquire graduate credits and develop valuable skills," said Tom
Russo, UW-RF professor of education and clinical psychologist.
Solution-focused counseling is a unique course that pertains to all counseling
positions within the school system. It maximizes student strengths and
problem-solving strategies and effectively helps individual students conduct
small-group and classroom interventions.
To register visit the UW-RF Outreach and Graduate Studies Web site at
www.uwrf.edu/ogs or call 715/425-3256.
Questions about course content can be e-mailed to Russo at tom.j.russo@uwrf.edu.
