Agronomy Team Place Fourth at National Meet

NOV. 12, 2004--The UW-River Falls agronomy quiz bowl team placed 4th out of 24 teams competing at the 96th Annual American Society of Agronomy Meeting held Oct. 31 to Nov. 4 in Seattle, Wash.

The team is coached by UW-RF plant and earth science Professor Steve Carlson and agronomy Assistant Professor Mike Crotser. Members of the team are: Joe Bollman, a crop and soil science major with an emphasis in crop science from Rice Lake, Wis.; Ben Janke, an agronomy major from River Falls, Wis.; Jenny Roth, a crop and soil science major with a crop science emphasis from Eden Prairie, Minn.; and Leah Viesselman, a crop and soil science major with a crop science emphasis from Grafton, Wis.

Carlson, the national adviser for students of agronomy, supervised tours while at the meeting. He presided over tours of a local organic operation, the biosolids production facility at the Tacoma wastewater treatment plant, and the Washington State University Puyallup Research and Extension Center.

More than 120 students from across the country attended the annual meeting and tours.
