UW-RF Students Top Cattle Judging Contest

NOV. 5, 2004--Block and Bridle Club members from the University of Wisconsin-River
Falls tested their judging skills with teams finishing first and second
at the 2004 Minnesota Beef Expo on Oct. 22.
Three teams consisting of four members each competed in the adult division
of the beef cattle judging contest. Members judged six classes of beef
cattle including breeding heifers, market steers, and prospect calves.
They were also scored on a series of questions for two of the six classes.
Team No. 2 took first place in the division. The team consisted of Theresa
Jeske, a freshman animal science major from Sheboygan Falls, Wis., Chelsey
Saevre, a freshman animal science major from Dodgeville, Wis., Amber Berning,
a freshman dairy science major from Ridgeway, Wis., and Cristina Duch,
a dairy science major from New London, Wis.
Team No. 1 took second place in the adult division of the contest. Team
No. 1 consisted of Jordan Milliren, a junior animal science major from
Plum City, Wis., Brian Hoffelt, a freshman animal science major from Bruce,
Wis., Zacry Pierce, a junior agricultural education major from Tomah,
Wis., and Sarah Larsen, a sophomore agricultural education major from
River Falls, Wis.
Team No. 3 placed fourth in the competition. The team consisted of Trent
Gabler, a freshman animal science major from Augusta, Wis., Daren Pronschinske,
a freshman animal science major from Arcadia, Wis., and Jason Hubly, a
sophomore agricultural business major from Clarks Grove, Minn.
Two UW-RF students also placed within the top five adult individuals;:
Cristina Duch claimed third overall and Chelsey Saevre placed fourth overall.
