Early Childhood Transition to Degree

To meet the growing need for preparation in early childhood education, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls has created a degree completion program that allows individuals with
an associate degree to complete their bachelor’s degree requirements via distance-learning courses.

Through articulation agreements with the Wisconsin technical colleges, UW-River Falls will accept the credits earned by their graduates and apply them toward the requirements for a bachelor’s degree and Wisconsin early childhood teaching certification (Birth - Age 8).

Students who have and associates degree in early childhood education from a Wisconsin Technical College or School may apply now and enroll in winter or spring courses. This program will be useful to teachers seeking to meet the requirements of Head Start reauthorization and preschool teachers who want to teach in four-year-old kindergarten through third grade classrooms. Practicing teachers may also take courses for professional development.

For convenience, the classes will be offered using distance learning technology (i.e. online and video conferencing). Some Saturday workshops on the UWRF campus will be required. Many of the courses will be offered in an integrated format that supports constructivism and developmentally appropriate practice and most courses will emphasize connecting children to nature and active exploration.

Under a new federal grant, students may be eligible to receive a scholarship from T.E.A.C.H. Early ChildhoodŽ WISCONSIN. More information about this scholarship is available at the web site, http://www. wecanaeyc.org/teach/index.php (external site).

For more information on admission requirements and class schedules, visit the Early Childhood web page or contact the Outreach office.
