Business Students Attend National Conference

Two UW-River Falls students in Sigma Beta Delta, an international academic
business honor society, accompanied College of Business and Economics Dean Barbara
Nemecek and SBD advisor, Mary Ticich, to the 2004 Triennial Convention held
in Fort Worth, Texas Oct. 15-17.
Students Matt Schuelke, a business administration major from Glidden, Wis.,
and Steve Schurhamer, an accounting major from Stillwater, Minn., were selected
by the UW-River Falls College of Business and Economics faculty and Ticich to
attend the prestigious conference.
"It is an honor for our students to be selected to go to this international
conference," says Nemecek. The conference also exposed the students to
new issues of student leadership, says Nemecek.
Conference participants listened to distinguished speakers in a range of business
fields including Tim Sear, the current chairman and chief executive officer
of Alcon Labs to Holly Gathright, senior director of recruitment and employment
at RadioShack, Inc.
Students are selected and invited to join Sigma Beta Delta by CBE faculty. To
be eligible, students must rank in the upper 10% of their junior, senior or
graduate class.
The purpose of SBD is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishment
among students of business management and administration, encourage and promote
aspirations toward personal and professional improvement, and recognize honorable
service to society.
