'Tis the Season, Donate a Kid's Book
In the essence of the holiday season, students at UW-River Falls have organized
drop boxes at the River Falls Public Library and UW-River Falls Chalmer Davee
Library to gather a variety of children’s books for local charities. Drop
boxes will be available from Friday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 21.
Books for Kids is a nonprofit, volunteer program founded by six UW-RF students
who hope to share the joy of reading and education with children from the surrounding
communities.
Sarah Powers, UW-RF senior and co-founder of Books for Kids, says, " I
think the campaign will be beneficial, and I'm really looking forward to seeing
the results. I’m excited to participate in the experience and help out
the children."
Books for Kids will accept new and gently used children’s books for all
ages up to 18 years old. Anything from Dr. Seuss to Harry Potter will be greatly
appreciated and enthusiastically received.
Molly Exner, UW-RF senior and co-founder of Books for Kids, says, "Without
reading and education in my life, I would’ve never been motivated to go
to college. I believe giving children the gift to read and to image the impossible
is the key to accomplishing their dreams."
The donated books will be distributed to local holiday charities and a portion
of the books donated will be gifted to children admitted at the Children’s
Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.
There are plenty of outlets willing to accept the children’s books and
plenty of children ready to explore the magical world of reading. Donate a book
at one of the local drop boxes and help spread the gift of reading to children
during this holiday season.
