Center for Economic Research Hosts Free Seminars
The Center for Economic Research at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls
has announced its upcoming seminars for the 2004 fall semester.
The seminars are free and open to the public. All of the presentations begin
at 3:15 p.m. in room 321 of South Hall preceded by refreshments at 3 p.m. in
Room 317 of South Hall.
Scheduled seminars include:
•Oct. 8. "State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Precision in the Meso and
Macro Worlds" presented by Brian Huffman, UW-RF associate professor of
business administration.
•Oct. 29. "Bubbles in Industry Returns" presented by Megan Sun,
UW-RF assistant professor of business management.
•Nov. 12. "The Academic Effect of the Freshman Seminar after Eight
Semesters," presented by Glenn Potts and Brian Schultz, both professors
of economics at UW-RF.
•Dec. 3. "Development of Guidelines for R & D Management for
Small Companies," presented by Majid Entezarian of Phillips Plastics Corp.
•Dec. 10. "The Role of the Reviewer: Guidelines and New Practices"
presented by Claire Kilian, UW-RF assistant professor of business administration.
Located within the College of Business and Economics, the center encourages
and assists in research that supports economic development in the region.
While the focus of the Center for Economic Research is on encouraging faculty
to engage in scholarly research, it also encourages the presentation of interdisciplinary
research to enrich the knowledge of the greater community.
Since its inception, the Center has actively engaged and participated in economic
development issues in the St. Croix Valley, says director Hamid Tabesh. Acting
as a liaison for the college to the region, the center helps to identify the
expertise faculty can offer to the business community.
The center also assists faculty in the pursuit of grants to fund appropriate
research, identifies research projects that meet economic development needs
of the St. Croix Valley, supports and encourages collaboration and the exchange
of ideas between faculty and staff, among other functions. Additionally, it
provides an outlet for the presentation of scholarly research activity in the
form of seminars.
