UW-RF Book Club Features "Ishmael"
The book "Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit" by Daniel
Quinn will be discussed as part of the Lion's Paw Book Club on Wednesday, Oct.
13, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Chalmer Davee Library Breezeway on the UW-River
Falls campus.
The discussion will be led by Dean for Student Development and Campus Diversity
Roger Ballou. The book follows a man in search of the truth who answers an ad
in a local newspaper from a teacher looking for serious students. He ultimately
ends up alone in an abandoned office with a gorilla named Ishmael.
The club encourages community members, faculty, staff and students to participate
in its gatherings during the academic year 2004-05. It meets on the second Wednesday
of the month until December and again from February through May. The public
is welcome to attend and need not have read the books to sit in on sessions.
The next discussion is Nov. 10 and will highlight "Life of Pi" by
Yann Martel. The group will be led by Suzanne Hagen, special assistant to the
chancellor for equity and compliance.
Featured books are available in the University Bookstore in the Hagestad Student
Center, and several copies of each book are also available in the Library's
collection.
