UW-RF Professor Recieves Outstanding Faculty Award
UW-River Falls Associate Professor Debra Allyn was selected for the Outstanding Faculty Member award for 2003 by the College of Education and Professional Studies Personnel Committee.
Allyn is an Associate Professor in the department of health and human performance, with research interests in biomechanics, which is the study of the mechanics of the body, and the use of technology in teaching.
Allyn said that she was pleased to be recognized. "It is a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues for my teaching, advising, and my contributions to the department, college and university," she said.
Dean Connie Foster cited Allyn's numerous contributions in the classroom, the department, the college and across campus as the reason for her selection.
In the classroom, the Red Wing, Minn., native, has pioneered the use of iMovie technology both to study biomechanics and to evaluate studentsŐ field experiences. She has consistently partnered with other faculty in presentations and publications.
Currently she serves her department as an adviser to international students. She also has coordinated the modernization of three classrooms in the Karges Physical Education Center. Institutionally, Allyn serves as a faculty technology associate, assisting faculty across campus to develop distance and technology-based instruction.
Allyn previously received the Helping Hands Award from her department for all of her activities, including her role as a coordinator and adviser in the departmentŐs student professional organization, Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Allyn earned her undergraduate degree in physical education and her master of science degree in exercise physiology at St. Cloud State University, Minn. She received her doctorate in biomechanics at the University of Minnesota.
