Bruce High School Grad Receives Ag Scholarship
Brian J. Hoffelt, a graduating senior from Bruce High School, is the recipient of the 2004 UW-River Falls Agricultural Technology Contest Scholarship. The scholarship, worth $500, is sponsored by the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) Alumni Association. He is the son of Donald and Jeanette Hoffelt of Bruce, Wis.
The 44th Annual Agricultural Technology Contest, sponsored by CAFES, was held in March. The contest included 853 high school students from 52 schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Tim Buttles, assistant professor of agricultural education, chairs the contest. Buttles presented the scholarship to Hoffelt in May at the Bruce High School Senior Awards Program held at Club 8 Supper Club in Ladysmith, Wis.
Hoffelt submitted an application and written essay on how FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. The CAFES scholarship committee evaluated the essays. Hoffelt's contest area was livestock evaluation, where he received the highest individual score and a superior rating. He has been accepted for fall 2004 admission to UW-RF, majoring in animal science.
