Dr. Hilree Hamilton
Associate Professor of Music Dr. Hilree HamiltonAssociate Professor of Music Ph.D., University of Minnesota Office Phone: 715-425-3858 Hamilton received her B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado in Music Education, her M.A. from the University of Minnesota in Music Education with the equivalency in Music Therapy, and her Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hamilton taught elementary and middle school classroom and choral music for 25 years in school districts in Kansas and Minnesota. A Board Certified music therapist, she worked with school-age children having a variety of disabilities for 10 years. Before teaching at UW-River Falls, Hamilton taught at the University of Minnesota. She has also worked as an adjunct professor at Hamline University, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the State University of New York-Potsdam, and the University of St. Thomas. Dr. Hamilton has extensive training in the Orff Schulwerk approach to music education. She has presented workshops and conference sessions throughout the United States on composition and improvisation in elementary classroom music and music therapy settings. She has articles published in recent journals of Teaching Music, The Wisconsin School Musician, The Orff Echo, General Music Today, and the Gopher Music Notes. She is a contributing author to the kindergarten book of the new textbook series, Spotlight on Music.
