
Eligibility Requirements:
To determine eligibility in McNair Scholars Program, students must be:
From a family that qualifies as low income (taxable income below 150% of the current federally-determined poverty level) and be a first-generation college student (neither parent/guardian obtained a Bachelor’s degree), to determine low income status use your 2008 tax return
OR
A member of a group that is historically under represented at the doctoral level. The Department of Education defines these groups as Black (non-Hispanic), Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaskan Native, and, in some fields, women.
Eligible applicants MUST also be:
Citizens or nationals of the US, or a permanent resident
Currently enrolled or accepted for admission to UW - River Falls
Transfer students are encouraged to apply
Eligible applicants will meet the following academic criteria:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred (2.8 minimum GPA)
- Sophomore or junior standing with a minimum of 45-60 credits completed.
- Desire to pursue a Ph.D. in an academic area (Note: professional post-graduate education is excluded; for example, business, law, medicine, and engineering are not included unless students plan to become college professors).
- Plans to attend graduate school full-time beginning after graduation.
