An interdisciplinary database that contains records from Women Studies Abstracts (1984-present), Women’s Studies Database (1972-present), Women’s Studies Bibliography Database, New Books on Women and Feminism (1987-present), Women of Color and Southern Women (1975-present), The History of Women and Science, Health, and Technology: a bibliographic guide to the professions and disciplines (1970-1995), Women’s Health and Development: an annotated bibliography (1995), Women, Race, and Ethnicity: a bibliography (1970-1990), WAVE: Women’s Audiovisuals in English: a guide to non-print resources in Women’s Studies (1985-1990), POPLINE Subset on Women (1964-2000).

GenderWatch

    Full-text database that includes articles from over 100 journals and magazines devoted to women’s issues, plus newsletters, regional materials, reports and conference proceedings.  Includes some coverage back to the mid-1970’s.

     

Academic Search Premier

    Available via EBSCOHOST.  Indexes and abstracts approximately 8,200 scholarly journals, with over 4,650 of those available with somefull-text.  3,600 of the journals are peer-reviewed.

     

Sociological Abstracts 1963-present

    Provides access to the worldwide findings in theoretical and applied sociology, social science, and policy science. Features journal citations and abstracts; book, chapter, and association paper abstracts; and book, film, and software review citations.

     

Other databases specializing in business, political science, art and education are available.

The Catalog of United States Government Publications, formerly the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, indexes print and electronic Government information products created by Federal agencies. The Catalog's data set contains authoritative bibliographic records generated since 1976 and is updated monthly.

As well as MANY more available through the Government Document section of SuperSearch.

WORLD WIDE WEB

The best way to find web sites dealing with women’s issues is by using an Internet Subject Directory.  The best directories are those that have subject experts evaluate the sites, such as: Librarian’s Internet Index . This website offers many links to Internet sites dealing with women’s studies, women’s issues, women’s rights and women in history, to name a few.   In addition, the following websites maybe helpful:

British and Irish Women's Letters and Dairies
This is the largest collection of British and Irish women's diaries and correspondence ever assembled. Spanning more than 300 years, it brings the personal experiences of nearly 500 women to researchers, students, and general readers.

North America Immigrant Letters, Diaries and Oral Histories
This database provides a unique and personal view of what it meant to immigrate to America and Canada.  Our goal is to include more than 100,000 pages of personal narratives including letters, diaries, pamphlets, autobiographies, and oral histories,  providing a rich source for scholars in a wide range of disciplines.  

 

Suffragists Oral History Project (UC Berkeley)

Seven major figures in twentieth-century suffragist history are represented here with full-length oral histories.

 

WSSLINKS Women and Gender Studies Web Sites  (MIT)

Developed and maintained by the Women's Studies Section
of the Association of College and Research Libraries. 
The purpose of WSS Links is to provide access to a wide range of resources in support of Women's Studies.

 

 

ARCHIVES/AREA RESEARCH CENTER

This facility, located in the lower level of the library building, holds many resources concerning women in Wisconsin and the St. Croix Valley region.  Included are letters and diaries, records of women’s organizations, manuscripts, books, and student papers and theses.
