Use the Voyager Online Catalog to locate books in the library.  You may search with general subject terms such as:

Or you may choose to conduct precise keyword searches that combine more than one subject.  For example, you may conduct a  guided keyword search such as social work AND aged.

Social Services Abstracts (1980-current)
Provides bibliographic coverage of current research focused on social work, human services, and related areas, including social welfare, social policy, and community development. The database abstracts and indexes (no full text) over 1,500 serials publications and includes abstracts of journal articles and dissertations, and citations to book reviews. 

Sociological Abstracts  (1963-current)
Abstracts and indexes the international literature in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. The database provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from over 1,700 serials publications, and also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers. Records added after 1974 contain in-depth and non-evaluative abstracts of journal articles.

Social Sciences Citation Index ISI Web of Knowledge (1987-present)
A multidisciplinary index to the journal literature of the social sciences, covering 1956-present. It fully indexes (no full text) more than 1,725 journals across 50 social sciences disciplines, and it indexes individually selected, relevant items from over 3,300 of the world's leading scientific and technical journals.

PsychInfo  (1872-present)
Contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, and technical reports, as well as citations to dissertations, all in the field of psychology and psychological aspects of related disciplines, such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education business and law. 

CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature)
Covers the Allied Health field of social service in health care.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition  (1975-present)
This database provides nearly 600 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Also features abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals. This database is updated on a daily basis.

LexisNexis Academic
Use the “legal research” Academic Search Form area to access legal news, scholarly law review articles, federal and state cases, federal and state codes, and federal regulations such as the Federal Register and Code of Federal Regulations.

 


Paper Index

Social Work Abstracts 

Located in the REFERENCE INDEX TABLES area of the library, this paper index is published quarterly by the National Association of Social Workers.  It contains abstracts for articles on social work and social welfare, as well as related fields.  About 450 journals are reviewed each year, and around 450 abstracts are included in each issue.  Please see a Reference Librarian if you need help using this publication.

Government Documents

Government Documents are materials that are printed under the authority of governmental agencies.  Our library receives a portion of these publications.  The Documents collection contains booklets, reports, and books dealing with social work.  Most of these materials are published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and are housed in the “HE” area of the Government Documents stacks.  Current documents that the library receives can be searched by keyword in the Voyager Online Catalog.

Association of Social Work Boards
The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) is the association of boards that regulate social work.  ASWB develops and maintains the social work licensing examination used across the country, and is a central resource for information on the legal regulation of social work.

Department of Regulation and Licensing—State of Wisconsin
Contains information about educational requirements, licensing, examinations, renewals and much more, for social workers in Wisconsin.

National Association of Social Workers
This is the official site of the major professional organization of social workers in the United States. It has, among other things, information about the association, publications, continuing educations, and resources for students.

National Association of Social Workers--Wisconsin Chapter
The largest organization of professional social workers in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin School Social Workers Association
The Wisconsin School Social Workers Association (WSSWA) is an independent association representing school social workers across Wisconsin. WSSWA is the strongest voice for school social work concerns in Wisconsin.

World Wide Web Resources for Social Workers
This guide, available through New York University’s Shirley M. Ehrenkranz School of Social Work, allows you to either browse or search their extensive collection of selected sites.

INFOMINE  (Scholarly Internet Resource Collections)
INFOMINE is a virtual library of Internet resources relevant to faculty, students, and research staff at the university level. It contains useful Internet resources such as databases, electronic journals, electronic books, bulletin boards, mailing lists, online library card catalogs, articles, directories of researchers, and many other types of information.
