How do I use Library computers?
- Enter your UWRF Falcon
Account username (W Number) and
password.
- Patrons without a valid UWRF login can type the word guest into the user name and leave the password blank.
- Printers are available, but you must supply the paper.
- Infostations on the main floor of the library are intended for research and do not have wordprocessing programs. Use labs instead.
- Double-click LOGOUT
on the desktop when youre
finished.

- The entire library is wireless and laptops are available for check out to current UWRF students. Visit the laptop check out website.
How do I find a book in the library?
To locate books, government documents, sound and video recordings,
DVDs and curriculum materials:
- Go to http://www.uwrf.edu/library
- Click on Books
and...
- Click on General
Searches to conduct
author or title search.
Click on Advanced Keyword
to search for a topic.
- For Advanced Keyword
searches, enter relevant keywords. Choose area to be searched
from drop-down menus or leave at default settings.
- Select from the Search
In drop-down menu list
whether you want to search for
all the search terms, any of
the search terms, or the search
terms as a phrase.
- Select how you want
to combine your search term(s)
using AND, OR, or NOT.
OR broadens your search, AND
and NOT narrows your search.
For example,
- searching
email OR e-mail
broadens the search by finding
records with either or both
terms.
- searching Bulgaria
AND tapestry narrows
the search by retrieving
only records containing
both terms.
- searching waste
NOT nuclear narrows
the search by finding records
that contain the first word
and eliminates any that
also contain the second.
- Click on Limits
if you want to limit your keyword
search based on other criteria.
- Click the Search
button to begin your search.
How do I find a JOURNAL or NEWSPAPER article in our library?
To locate specific articles from journals, magazines and newspapers,
use the Librarys extensive collection of electronic indexes:
- Go to Librarys
webpage
- Click on SuperSearch, Quick Search
- Click the radio button for the appropriate
subject.
- Complete search form
and hit the GO button.
- Comb through results
for relevant articles.
- Use the red SFX button to check for full text links, library holdings, & interlibrary loan.

How do I search DATABASES from OFF CAMPUS?
Access to databases from off-campus is available to UWRF faculty, staff
and students.
- From any SuperSearch link as described above, find the appropriate
database.
- A prompt will appear, enter Falcon Account
user name and password.
How do I find COURSE RESERVE materials?
To locate material your professor has placed in the course reserves
collection:
- Go to Librarys
webpage
- Click on Course
Reserves...
- Select instructor,
department or course from drop
down menus.
- Click on Search.
- Find the title you
need.
- Retrieve the item electronically
(when available), or note the
call number and take call number
to Circulation Desk.
Staff will retrieve item
for you.
How do I CHECK OUT library materials?
You may check out books, most
government documents, cassettes,
compact discs, records, video
recordings, and DVDs. Reference
materials and periodicals must
be used in the library. The checkout
period for most materials is 28
days. Video and DVD checkout period
is 14 days.
When faculty place materials
on reserve, those materials will
be available for limited use,
usually for 2 hours or overnight.
- Go to the Circulation Desk, located near the entrance of the
Library.
- Present a valid University
I.D. or Community Borrower Card.
Community users may purchase
a card for a $20 annual fee.
How do I RENEW library materials?
- Go to Librarys
webpage
- From the Library
Quick Links drop-down
menu, choose Renew
your materials.
- Enter your full 16-digit University ID Number and Last Name, then click
OK.
- Check Renew?
box and click Renew
Items.
Renewal Status
box will indicate new due date.
Items with the status LOST or
items with multiple pieces (e.g.,
multipiece CDs) may not be renewed
online. Renew these items
in the library.
How do I get materials from OTHER LIBRARIES?
If you need a
specific article or a book that
the Chalmer Davee
Library does not own, the Interlibrary
Loan Department
will try to obtain it for you. There
are two ways to borrow materials:
(1) University of Wisconsin System
Universal Borrowing, and (2) worldwide
borrowing.
UW
System Universal Borrowing: UWRF
students, faculty, and staff are
able to borrow materials directly
from other UW System campus libraries. Materials
may be picked up and returned
to any UW library.
Most materials eligible
for universal borrowing are checked
out for 28 days and may be renewed
once. Videos,
media and some curriculum materials
circulate for 14 days and may
not be renewed.
1: From
the library
web page,
follow the "Books and…"
link to enter the Voyager online
catalog.
2:
On the right side of the
screen, click “UW Libraries
(Universal Borrowing).”
3: Select
the catalog you wish to search. You
may simultaneously search multiple
catalogs by highlighting the ALL
UNIVERSAL BORROWING LIBRARIES
choice, or you may choose to select
individual libraries from the
list.
4:
Click on the “Connect”
button.
5: After
conducting a search and locating
a relevant record, click on the
“Place Request” button
located at the top of the screen.
6: You
will be prompted to enter your
full 16-digit University ID number and your
last name before placing the request.
7: You
will be notified via your University
email when the item has arrived.
Pick up material at the
Library’s Circulation Desk.
Worldwide Borrowing: In
addition to Universal Borrowing,
you may search WorldCat to locate and request books available
in libraries worldwide.
WorldCat offers
an online interlibrary loan request
form.
To order materials
not available through Universal
Borrowing or WorldCat,
fill out an interlibrary loan
request form online.

How do I Make Photocopies?
The Library
has several photocopy machines located
on the first floor.
Copies cost ten cents
each if using cash or coins, or
eight cents each if using
center points and your student ID
card.
If you do not have a student
ID card, you can purchase a copycard
for one dollar, add money onto the
card, and receive copies for six
cents each.
