WEB sites: looking for variations of a fairy tale

Below are links to selected websites that discuss fairy tales and their cross-cultural cousins. This will help you find a fairy tale to use for your analytical paper.

SurLaLune Fairy Tales

For each fairy tale listed on this site, there is a "similar tales across cultures" option on the left bar.

Books in the UWRF Library

Once you find a story that you're interested in, and have found a few variant titles, use our online catalog to to see if our library own a copy of it. At the Quick Search search screen, enter the name of the fairy tale you are interested in, just as you would in an Internet search engine such as Google. When results come up, they will be in order of relevance, NOT DATE.

If you want to expand beyond the UWRF library, use Universal Borrowing. This online catalog allows you to search and order books from other UW libraries. Books arrive at the UWRF library in about 3-5 days. This gives you access to the huge libraries at UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee, as well as other smaller, specialized collections.

SUPERSEARCH (Online Journal Articles)

Find scholarly jounal articles and newspaper articles using SuperSearch. What is SuperSearch? SuperSearch is a way to search up to 8 different informational resources simultaneously. For example, you can search the Library's catalog, Academic Search Premier or any of the Library's online resources all at one time. You can even create your own combinations of informational resources for searching, and you can save your research in your very own folders for future use. As a student, you can use SuperSearch from any computer in the world that has internet access (when off-campus, enter your Falcon Account information when prompted).

STYLE MANUAL HELP

When composing an academic research paper, it's necessary to follow the correct citation rules both in your text, and on your work cited/references page. There are several different citation styles: MLA, APA, and Turabian to name a few. Your professor will most likely require a particular one. To view online help sheets, click here. I recommend the link titled "California State University Los Angelos Style Manual Guide" and "Citation Style for Research Papers (APA, Turabian, MLA, Chicago, AMA)." Paper manuals are also available for most styles; go to the Research Help Desk in the library if you need help locating one.
