New Computer Kiosks
The library has added several "Quick Kiosks" throughout the library. Quick kiosks do not require a UWRF Login and are accessible to community patrons. These kiosks are meant to be used for searching for library resources, brief web browsing, and checking email. They are not meant to be used for writing papers, working with Excel, or creating/printing Powerpoint presentations. (Due to lincensing restrictions, MS Office products are only available on computers that require a UWRF Login.) Quick Kiosks are designated with green labels. UWRF Login computers have a red label.

UW-System libraries Universal Borrowing service unavailable
Due to a system upgrade, the UW-System libraries Universal Borrowing service is unavailable through Aug. 16. During this time, materials not held by UWRF may be requested using the Interlibrary Loan service. For additional assistance, contact  interlibraryloan@uwrf.edu or call ext. 4286.

Area Research Center and University Archives Move

As part of a series of renovations taking place on campus, the UWRF Area Research Center/University Archives, housed in the lower level of the library, is planning a move for Summer/Fall, 2009. With the help of Campus Planner Dale Braun, the Facilities Management Department, and architects from the firm of Frisbie Architects, Inc., Archivist Alyson Jones has drafted a program statement that outlines goals and priorities for the move. Blueprints have been created and contracting bids are currently being reviewed. Demolition should begin later this summer.

The new ARC will be located in the space formerly occupied by Textbook Services. Once finished, it will almost double the square footage of the current ARC—3310 sq. ft. to 6586 sq. ft—resulting in a larger, more open reading room, dedicated processing space, more staff offices, and a temperature and humidity-controlled storage space. In addition, there will be artifact and rare book displays, a conference room, and a reception area.

Macintosh Computers in Reference Area
In April, three iMac computers were added to the public-use computers in the library's reference area. The iMacs include Mac OS X, 1.83 GHz Intel processor, 1GB ram, CD-RW/DVD-RW combo drive, and 2 USB ports. Users must have a valid Falcon ID as the iMacs do not allow guest logins.
