How do I get materials from other libraries?

If you need a specific article or a book that the Chalmer Davee Library does not own or have access to through the SFX/FindIt search software, the Interlibrary Loan Department will try to obtain it for you. There are two primary ways to borrow materials, from the University of Wisconsin System Universal Borrowing, and standard interlibrary loan.

UW System Universal Borrowing: UWRF students, faculty, and staff are able to borrow materials directly from other UW System campus libraries. Materials may be picked up and returned to any UW library. Most materials eligible for universal borrowing are checked out for 28 days and may be renewed once. Videos, media and some curriculum materials circulate for 14 days and may not be renewed.

From the library web page, follow the "Books and library materials" link to enter the online catalog.

In the yellow toolbar near the top of the screen, click “Other UW Catalogs "Universal Borrowing"

Select the catalog you wish to search. You may simultaneously search multiple catalogs by selecting Search All UW System Libraries, or you may choose to select individual libraries from the list.

Click on the “Connect” button.

After conducting a search and locating a relevant record, click on the “Place Request” button located at the top of the screen.

You will be prompted to enter your 16 digit University ID number and your last name before placing the request, and then asked to reenter your 16 digit University ID number.

You will be notified via your University email when the item has arrived. Pick up material at the Library’s Circulation Desk.

Interlibrary Loan: In addition to Universal Borrowing, you may search WorldCat to locate and request books available in libraries worldwide. WorldCat offers an online interlibrary loan request form.

To order materials not available through Universal Borrowing or WorldCat, fill out an interlibrary loan request form online.
