Copyright @ UW-River Falls

Copyright provides certain forms of protection to authors of "original works of authorship," including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. It is based on federal law (title 17, U.S. Code) and provides an author two important protections: to control how a work is used and to obtain commercial benefit from a work.

This website is intended to guide the UW-River Falls community in understanding and interpreting copyright law in an educational setting. It provides basic information on copyright, and points to specific information about copyright procedures as followed by units throughout the University. The information on these pages is not legal advice, and should not be considered a substitute for legal counsel.
