Make an appointment with your advisor by signing up on your advisor's sign-up sheet posted near your advisor's office door.
PLEASE DO NOT CALL to make an appointment; the program assistant, student assistants and other faculty who may answer the phone will not schedule appointments on behalf of your advisor.
If you haven't already done so, keep your Degree Audit Report (DAR), 4-year plans and other pertinent registration materials in one folder to use throughout your college career.
PLAN AHEAD with your JOURNALISM PRODUCTION COURSES. Majors must take two of the following production courses:
121 Radio News Production
122 TV News Photography
123 Editing for Print Media
124 Editing for Online Media
These courses prepare you for the two required Practicum courses (JOUR 304) where you will report for the student news media of your choice: Student Voice, WRFW News, or NewsCenterU. You may choose to work in the same media for both Practicums, or you may choose to gain experience in two different ones. For example, you could take one Practicum at WRFW News and another at the Student Voice. Or, you could take both Practicums at WRFW News.
Whichever news media you choose for your Practicums, you will need to have taken the corresponding production course(s) in advance:
Practicum at Student Voice: prerequisite is JOUR 123 Editing for Print Media
Practicum at
WRFW News: prerequisite is JOUR 121 Radio News Production
Practicum at NewsCenterU: prerequisite is JOUR 122 TV News Photography
JOUR 124 Editing for Online Media prepares students to report for a news Web site. A practicum for this converged style of reporting will be established next year.
