To maximize the number of ITC credits that will count towards your degree, be sure to plan upcoming semesters carefully. Leave open several spots in your curriculum if possible (see below). We realize that this is often complicated and degree requirements vary by program and college. You need to be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits for the program. If you are unsure about anything, or just want to verify your schedules, don't hesitate to contact the program coordinator for assistance. As a general recommendation, here is what you should do if possible:

  1. Try to leave as many open slots in your general education "social and behavioral sciences," "ethical citizenship," and "multi-disciplinary" categories.
  2. Wait to take your global awareness course.
  3. If you are either in the College of Arts and Sciences or are in another program that requires liberal arts, try to leave as many slots in your liberal arts categories open as possible, especially the humanities and fine arts and social and behavioral sciences categories.
  4. If you are a bachelor of arts student, try not to complete all of the international requirements of your bachelor's degree.
  5. If you are a journalism student, do not take your "international course" requirement.
  6. Readings are offered only on a case-by-case basis, typically in situations wherein students have already completed two or more of the other ITC courses. Past ITC students have recommended that Readings and Independent study course only be used if you absolutely have to reach 12 credits. Most have found that the program is more productive and enjoyable with the focus that the structured courses provide.
  7. Finally, any of the ITC courses can be taken as general electives, and ITC staff will work with you to try to identify ways that courses might fulfill degree requirements.

If you've already taken some of these courses, or fulfilled some of the requirements identified above, we will explore possible independent readings with you.
