UW-River Falls International Studies Major

The International Studies major has four components: a foreign language, required courses, directed electives, and a study-abroad course.

  1. Students complete two years of a foreign language of their choice (e.g. complete any two-year language at the UW-RF, testouts equivalent to two years, or complete two years at another accredited university and transfer the credits to the UW-RF).

  2. Students must complete seven required courses:

    INTS 200 Intro to International Studies 3 credits
    AGEC 250 World Food & Populations 3 credits
    ECON 150 International Economic Issues 3 credits
    GEOG 120 Human Geography 3 credits
    HIST 102 Origins of One World 3 credits
    POLS 260 International Relations 3 credits
    INTS 480 Senior Seminar (prerequisites: completion of all lower-level required courses and senior standing, or consent of instructor) 3 credits

  3. Directed electives:

    Select 15 credits, spread over at least three of the seven elective categories. No more than nine credits can come from any one of categories A-F, no more than three credits from category G, and one course must be selected from category F (study abroad experience). Credit for INTS 379, 389, 490, or 499 can be applied to these categories after consultation with the chair. 15 credits

  4. Study abroad experience:

    Students must select at least one course from category F (study abroad experience). 3-9 credits
