The International Studies major has four components: a foreign language, required courses, directed electives, and a study-abroad course.
- Students complete two years of a foreign language of their choice (e.g. complete any two-year language at the UW-RF, testouts equivalent to two years, or complete two years at another accredited university and transfer the credits to the UW-RF).

Students must complete seven required courses:

Directed electives:
| Select 15 credits, spread over at least three of the seven elective categories. No more than nine credits can come from any one of categories A-F, no more than three credits from category G, and one course must be selected from category F (study abroad experience). Credit for INTS 379, 389, 490, or 499 can be applied to these categories after consultation with the chair. |
